Cultural Cities

Small antique villages such as Campiglia Marittima, Suvereto, Sassetta, Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri are all nearby and can be reached easily by car, in minutes in some cases. For the more adventurous, by bicycle or horse.

La Muccheria is in a tactical position for visiting some of the most important cultural cities in Italy, Florence is roughly 140 km away, Pisa and Luca 90 km and Siena 120 km.

Wine

Just a few kilometres from us there is one of the most famous terroir for excellent wines in Europe. Bolgheri is in fact home to some of the most prestigious “Super Tuscan” vintages that are known the world over, Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Gaja and Guado al Tasso, to name just a few. We can assist you in making reservations to visit some of these cantinas as well as other less famous ones, dedicated to the same excellence.
A part from Bolgheri, we are near other world class wine production areas such as Chianti Classico, Il Vino Nobile of Montepulciano and Brunello of Montalcino

The Sea

The Muccheria is just a few kilometres from the Gulf of Baratti, one of Tuscany’s most enchanting and magical beaches. Fine sand, a shallow bottom for many metres and limpid, clear waters all surrounded by a pine grove of wind sculpted trees make this gulf one of a kind. High above the beach is what is left of the Etruscan city of Populonia with its medieval castle lending an air of poetry and an extended view of the Tuscan Archipelago.

And why not take the occasion to visit some of the more beautiful islands of the Tuscan Archipelago? In less than an hour from the port of San Vincenzo it’s possible to reach the island of Elba as well as the island of Capraia, Pianosa and Montecristo.

Excursions on Horseback

The parks of the Maremma Toscana offer breath taking panoramas of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Tuscan Archipelago, where it’s possible to pass fantastic days on horseback excursions. These rides pass through a variety of countryside, from flood-plains, olive groves, Mediterranean woods (macchia) and pasture lands where it’s possible to see farms and even wild animals sometimes.

Trekking

The Etruscan Coast is a perfect spot for trekking enthusiasts, the variety of terrain lends itself to many levels of hikers, from the expert to the beginner. A well signed and maintained series of trails in the administrative areas around us make this a hiker’s paradise. Monte Calvi, the shoulder of which we are sitting upon, is also home to millennia of industrial activity, from the Etruscans to the present the minerals here have been mined. It’s possible to visit the ancient castle ruins of a mining community in the nearby archaeological park of San Silvestro.
